Day 2: Clean House
Warm-Up:
Pray:
“Jesus, when you entered the Temple you cleaned house. You made room for prayer. You understood the power of prayer and how it shapes me. By Your Spirit, now I am the temple of the Holy Spirit. What do you need to clear out of my heart to make room for You? How do I need to clean up my schedule to make room for You? I’m pursuing You into the Temple today so let’s clean house!”
Round 1:
Read Matthew 21:12-17.
Round 2:
Jesus cleaned out the Temple in order to bring prayer into focus for His people. Take a few minutes to consider what is in your heart that needs to get out. Maybe it’s an attitude, or a way of thinking that doesn’t serve you well anymore. Maybe it’s a bad habit. Write down what you feel needs to go.
Round 3:
How do you need to clean up your schedule to make room for prayer? Consider an average day in your life. How will you free up your schedule a bit to create space for God? Do you need to stop doing something? Do you need to start doing something? Write this down.
Burn Out:
Sometime today…find something near you that needs to be cleaned up. Maybe it is a corner of your room that has become cluttered. Maybe your closet is messy and needs to be organized. Maybe you have a stack of paperwork that needs to be dealt with. Maybe you need to throw out a bunch of stuff. Clean something up as a symbol of what God is doing in your heart. Intentionally pray about the things you wrote down in Rounds 2 and 3 above while you work.
Think of someone who you can invite to join you in your pursuit. Text or call them and invite them. If they want to join you, they can text PRAY to (708) 295 3589.
Sometime this week:
If you are able, fast this week. Choose a day and fast a meal, two meals or the whole day. During the time you would normally eat, take some extra time to focus on God through prayer or reading. If you are not sure if fasting is okay for you, consult your doctor.
