Day 24: Quit Thinking

Warm-Up:

Watch this video:

ROUND 1:

Write out the following phrases:

the difference between ending up somewhere,
and ending up somewhere on purpose is intentionality.

What I say and do is determined by what is in my heart.

ROUND 2:

Read Nehemiah 2:6-9 again and Luke 6:45

ROUND 3:

Set a timer for 5 minutes and sit quietly with your thoughts. Write down the thoughts that you naturally gravitate toward.

ROUND 4:

Nehemiah quit his job as cupbearer in order to pursue his mission and go to Jerusalem. But he also quit thinking too. He quit accepting his identity as an exile in a dead-end job. He quit believing that God abandoned him. He quit thinking that He couldn’t make a difference in the world.

What thought patterns do you need to quit? What hurtful thoughts do you need to quit falling into? What self-talk do you need to quit listening to? Write this all down.

BURN OUT:

Pray:

Jesus, You challenged us to not worry and not give a thought to things we cannot control. My heart is the source of what goes through my mind so I surrender my heart to You. Purify my heart and let it fuel what I focus on. Let it drive what I believe about myself. Let it expand what I believe about Your plan for me. Let it redefine what I think is possible. Today, I commit to quit thinking thoughts that sabotage my ability to follow You the way I really desire to.

Sometime this week:

Work through your past experiences (this is important to do):

  1. Create a list of the things that have impacted you the most (bonus points if you put this in a timeline format):

    • the people

    • the events

    • the challenges

    • the opportunities (doors that have opened)

  2. Highlight the painful items on your list.

  3. Identify at least three chapters to your life (but no more than six).

  4. Write down at least one life lesson you learned in each chapter.
