Write down the time and place where you are completing this Soul Workout.

Warm-Up:

Pray:

“Jesus, You experienced overwhelming emotion and You brought those emotions into Your time with the Father. You understand how I feel and what I am going through today. I confidently come before Your throne of grace to find mercy and help in my time of need.”

Round 1:

Read Luke 22:39-46 and Hebrews 4:15-16.

Round 2:

Look over the following list of emotions you and determine which one you feel the strongest today. Write it down. If your strongest emotion is not on the list, write it down. If you are numb and not feeling at all, write that down.

  • Happiness

  • Sadness

  • Anger

  • Frustration

  • Overwhelmed

  • Fear

  • Regret

  • Joy

  • Love

  • Anxiety

  • Anticipation

Round 3:

When Jesus was overwhelmed with the emotion of sorrow, He turned to prayer. He knew that being with His Father would allow Him to work through the emotion and accomplish His mission. In Luke, we see that an angel was sent to strengthen Him. This all happened because He leaned into prayer.

Pray:

“God, today I am experiencing the emotion of (write down emotion you feel strongest). You are with me in this. I surrender this emotion to You and ask You to work in it. Give me understanding around why I am feeling it and how to process it in a healthy way. May Your will be done in me. Thank you for hearing me and healing me!”

Burn Out:

Luke 22:39 tells us that Jesus had created a routine of going to the Mount of Olives to pray. Every routine is built on a consistent habit. God is working in your consistency with Him. Over time, you will create a routine that includes prayer as a centerpiece. This puts you in a position to hear from God and see Him work in your life. Keep going!

Write this as a declaration:

I am prioritizing prayer to lock in a life-changing routine.

Sometime this week:

If you are able, fast this week. Choose a day and fast a meal, two meals or the whole day. During the time you would normally eat, take some extra time to focus on God through prayer or reading. If you are not sure if fasting is okay for you, consult your doctor.
