This segment of the Dangerous pursuit is about intercession. Today you will intercede for the country you live in. Write down the time and place where you are completing this Soul Workout.

Warm-Up:

Pray:

“Lord, today I stand in the gap for my country. Your word declares that if I, who am called by Your name, will humble myself and pray and seek Your face and turn from my wicked ways, then You will hear from heaven and will forgive my sin and will heal my land. May I be the spark that ignites a whole movement of humility, prayer, seeking You and turning from sin. My country needs You more than ever!”

Round 1:

Read 2 Chronicles 7:11-14 and underline what stands out to you.

Round 2:

In your journal, write out the following areas of culture:

  • Commerce

  • Education

  • Social Sector

  • Arts & Entertainment

  • Government

  • Military

  • Media

Round 3:

Next to the areas you wrote out in Round 2, write down any names of people you know or can think of for each area. For instance, if you know someone in the military, write their name down.

Burn Out:

Take as much time as you need to intercede for your country. Pray through the following areas. Pray through a few or all of them. Pray specifically for any names you wrote down in Round 3 as well. Come back to this list often to stand in the gap for your country:

  • Commerce: Pray for integrity, diligence and humility for business leaders and employees. (1 Chronicles 29:17)

  • Education: Pray for a safe atmosphere conducive to learning, excellence in educators, equal opportunities for every student and return to values that honor the Lord. (Philippians 1:9)

  • Social Sector: Pray that non-profit organizations do their best work to provide for the basic needs of people. Allow for their work to be adequately funded. (Colossians 3:23-24)

  • Arts & Entertainment: Pray that individuals in the performing arts, sports, museums, and historical sites enhance people’s lives in positive ways. That individuals would come to a saving knowledge of God that further influences others in this area. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

  • Government: Pray for the federal and state government including the judges in our courts. Ask God to grant them wisdom to act with integrity. (I Timothy 2:1-2)

  • Military: Pray for courage and dependence on God (Psalm 91), perseverance to endure hardship (Deuteronomy 31:6), divine protection from the enemy. (Romans 5:1-5)

  • Media: Pray for creative ideas that bring kingdom principles and life-giving messages to the public; and for individuals to hear and receive salvation. (Proverbs 8:35)

Sometime this week:

If you are able, fast this week. Choose a day and fast a meal, two meals or the whole day. During the time you would normally eat, take some extra time to focus on God through prayer or reading. If you are not sure if fasting is okay for you, consult your doctor.
