Day 10: Imperfection
In order for us to awaken to god’s mission for us to change the world, we must have an accurate perception of who we are and who we are not. If we don’t believe god would ever give us a purpose, we sabotage ourselves.
Warm-Up:
Pray:
“God, Nehemiah understood he was a servant of God but not perfect. I feel like I miss the mark all the time. How could you use me to change the world if I mess up? Show me how to walk through life identifying myself as a servant who sins rather than a sinner. I am not my past mistakes. Forgiveness can be mine. I want to draw from Your well of grace and what is true about me in the deepest part of me. You ARE speaking to me. Continue to stir up the mission that You have for me. I’m ready.”
Round 1:
Read Romans 7:21-25.
Round 2:
Pray the following from your heart:
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.
You delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness.
Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.
O Lord, open my mouth and I will declare your praise.
Your sacrifices are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Give me favor and strengthen my heart.
Derived from Psalm 51
Round 3:
Write out this phrase in your journal:
I am no longer a sinner who needs to be saved.
I am a servant of God who sins.
Burn Out:
Figure out a way to remind yourself each hour for the next 8 hours. (You could set an hourly reminder on your phone.) Each time the reminder goes off, pray…
“God, I am your servant. This is who I am. Empower me to live like it.”
