Grace is when you receive something that you don’t deserve.

Grace is when you receive something that you don’t deserve.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. —Matthew 4:1-2

The wilderness prepared Jesus for the mission He was anointed to fulfill. One (of many) reasons Jesus came to die was to show the enormity of God’s love and grace for you.

Draw a scale, 1-10, in your journal. Circle the number that best describes how intense God’s sacrifice was to save you from the penalty of your sin. (1=not intense, 10=intense)

Draw a second scale, 1-10, in your journal. Circle the number that best describes the degree of unworthiness you had when he saved you. (1=not worthy, 10=worthy)

Jesus came as the “Anointed One,” the “Messiah,” the “King of Israel,” and “God’s only Son.” The only explanation for God to give His only son is the riches of His grace.

Set a timer for 1 minute and consider the horrific death Jesus endured compared to how much you don’t deserve this grace. The gap is how massive god’s love is for you.

One will scarcely die for a righteous person— though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. —Romans 5:7-8
