Day 2: Not Okay
This is the beginning phase of our 52 day journey. We need to focus on establishing a routine of getting alone with God. Prioritize this time each day and watch what happens. —Joe
Warm-Up:
Pray:
“God, when I get quiet and am honest with myself, there’s some things that are not okay. The world around me has toughened my skin. It seems like everybody has created a persona that pretends that things are okay when they really aren’t. Why? Nehemiah was different. Help me be different. Help me find words. Remind me that it’s okay to not be okay when I’m with You and trusted friends.”
Round 1:
Grab your Bible and read Nehemiah 1:1-4.
Round 2:
Set a timer for 5 minutes and sit quietly—with as little distraction as possible. As you are sitting, write down anything that comes to mind that is not okay with you, your family, friends, neighborhood, etc.
Round 3:
Look at your list from Round 2 and underline the top three things that are your top “not okay” things.
Burn Out:
Set your timer for 5 more minutes. Sit quietly and talk to God about the things you underlined in Round 3. What is not okay about these things? What expectation was not met? What doesn’t seem right to you? Congrats, you just survived the Solitude discipline.
